Citizens have an important role to play in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature. One of the many ways in which you can become involved and help to ensure an open and democratic society is by casting your vote during elections.

ELECTIONS:If you are 18 years and older, be a responsible citizen and vote during elections. You will be using your right to vote for and elect the next government. Remember, MPLs are public representatives who have been chosen by you to represent them in the Legislature.

The way to have a say in which individuals become candidates for election to the Legislature, and the way to become a candidate yourself, is by becoming a member of a political party. As a party member, you may be able to influence a party’s political programme in the Legislature, its candidate list and the issues it decides to focus on during an election campaign.
