The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature has a constitutional obligation and integral responsibility (in terms of Section 118 of the SA Constitution) to facilitate public involvement in its legislative processes.

The Members of the Provincial Legislature strive to serve the people of the Eastern Cape through interactive public participation programmes that market the Legislature and increase public awareness of legislative processes. The fulfillment of this vision requires the empowerment of people as to achieve a high level of participatory democracy and accountable government.

Public participation programmes not only help to ensure effective and efficient flow of information to and from the Legislature and the public, but also ensure that citizens are empowered to make informed decisions regarding their democratic rights. Such programmes further support accountability, as MPLs are required to interact with the public and engage in dialogue to hear the needs and views of the public and discuss possible solutions.

Therefore, the Legislature needs the public’s involvement in the legislative processes to nurture true democracy in the province.

Public participation is your democratic right!
